Forestry First Aid: 1 Day Appointed Person certificate: 1-day workshop
Saturday
18th June, 9am-4.30pm, £62.50. This training is suitable for both private individuals (e.g. woodland owners working in their own woodland) and commercial foresters, coppice cutters, woodland managers, arborists, etc. The H&SE 1-day Appointed Person First Aid Certificate is valid for three years. Trainer, Andy Randall, has been a fully qualified Health & Safety Executive First Aid instructor for the last 3 years whilst working full time for Sussex Ambulance Service. Having spent 15 years working as a forester and tree surgeon, he has a unique perspective on the risks and potential injuries in tree work, understanding the specific types of injuries that are likely to occur in the industry when working at height, in remote locations and with chainsaws, chippers and other related tools.

Basic Tree ID & Standing Timber Assessment
for Sustainable Timber Production
: 1-day workshop

Saturday 17th May 10am-4pm. £50. 
Suitable for those interested in developing basic tree ID & standing timber assessment skills, for example woodland owners, those considering buying a woodland, forestry and conservation students.  Learn to identify our most common and most valuable timber species, make a basic assessment of timber quality and have an understanding of local timber market requirements/opportunities. Workshop leader (& local woodland owner): Alison Wright with WoodNet Outreach Officer, Richard Smith. The day will be both classroom and woodland based so please wear suitable clothing. All participants receive a free Tree ID chart and information pack. Refreshments provided, please bring your own lunch.

Learn to map your woodland and record species, appraise the potential value of timber and estimate volumes, understand basic Health & Safety requirements and responsibilities, improve confidence in discussions with woodland managers, contractors and timber merchants.
