About WoodNet
WoodNet was established as a bidding partnership in 1995, becoming a company limited by
guarantee and attaining charitable status in 2000. WoodNet delivers
education, training, research and development relating to woodland
management and the innovative use of timber.
WoodNet has developed an extensive database of woodland practitioners and timber users
throughout the South East, and provides effective networking through the regular
publication of the WoodLots
newsletter (www.woodlots.org.uk),
received by over 1600 subscribers five
times a year.
Working in partnership WoodNet
has developed a number of practical initiatives with forestry, timber
industry and public sector organisations, for example: TimberBuild
Network SE, Inwood Developments, Lignatherm and Weald WoodFair.
WoodNet is based at the Woodland Enterprise Centre (WEC)
located in the heavily wooded Weald near Flimwell on the East
Sussex/Kent border. As such WoodNet is well placed to deliver a
programme of education, training, seminars and exhibitions focused on
woodlands and timber.
The Woodland Enterprise Centre is a demonstration in itself -
exciting architecture set within 20 hectares of working woodland
offering an inspiring environment. The Centre includes a Civic
Trust award-winning timber gridshell building, completed in 2003,
incorporating many environmental design features, including under-floor
heating fuelled by local wood-chip.
