Frankie Woodgate runs her own horse-logging business based in Kent and travels with her horses to sensitive extraction sites throughout the South East. Frankie successfully participated in the Forestry Commission’s Woodland Harvesting, Processing & Marketing pilot, which contributed 30% towards the funds required to buy a new horse (Yser) and logging harness, a horse drawn timber forwarder with hydraulic grab and horse lorry. |

With
a significant capital investment on her part (70%), an effective business
plan was essential. The process of developing a business plan for the WHPM
Grant application was very demanding, Frankie knows that it helped her
identify areas where her business was uneconomic - for example, hiring horse
transport for every job - and therefore helped her make decisions on how to
improve efficiency. |
