Your Response

The Future of WoodNet

In December 2003 we asked you to let us know how WoodLots can develop into a self-sustaining service.  Your responses are summarised below with some options for subscribers that will help ensure the continuation of this service.

Thanks to the long-term support of East Sussex County Council, WoodLots now provides a well-established network of 1300 subscribers with local timber interests throughout the Southeast.  To be truly sustainable, WoodLots has to start paying for itself - but how can this be achieved without compromising the free advertising at the core of the WoodLots service?  We asked you, the WoodLots service users, a number of questions in our last issue about raising revenue and eighty of you replied.

33%   said you would consider paying for coloured boxed advertising

21%   are interested in paying for a web-profile at www.woodnet.org.uk

9%     would like to sponsor WoodLots

30%   would consider making a tax efficient charity donation to WoodLots

70%   would be willing to pay a subscription fee ranging from £4 to £25 a year (average £10)

33%   are interested in becoming part of a WoodNet Trading Company

25%   would consider partnership bidding

45%   are interested in a timber-focused advisory service
40%   commented and made suggestions (see Readers comments on the future of WoodLots)

A third of respondents said they would be interested in paying for enhanced advertising.  We have immediately responded by offering full-colour and black & white boxed-advertising as a straightforward way of raising funds to support the free service.  Our readership is of high advertising value for businesses and organisations within the wood-chain. If you are interested in enhanced advertising within future issues of WoodLots and would like to find out more about our competitive rates, please contact the Editor at: info@woodnet.org.uk.

Many of you are willing to pay for WoodLots. However, a number of you stated that the service should remain free to help those who most need it.  As a result we are introducing an optional WoodLots Friend’ scheme enabling you to contribute to WoodLots by annual donation. We are also introducing a WoodLots Sponsor’ scheme for businesses, organisations and local authorities wishing to show their support for WoodLots.  Links to information about the WoodLots Friends & Sponsors Scheme will be available in early March.

Please consider becoming a Woodlots Friend, Sponsor or advertiser. Your investment will assist the continuation of this effective service for our local timber industry. As a Friend, Sponsor or long term advertiser, you will also be entitled to reduced advertising rates plus reduced ticket prices for WoodNet events. We wholeheartedly encourage you to make a financial contribution, as a Friend, Sponsor or Advertiser, to help ensure this simple and effective service continues.
