Framing
Oak
To promote the use of local hardwood timbers
in picture framing, Weald WoodNet have co-ordinated a unique collaboration
between artist Julia Desch, furniture designer-maker Tamsin Yeld and
picture framer David Graham. Tamsin selected and processed the character
oak from Julia’s farm, supplying David Graham with frame profiles.
Julia painted ‘The Flame of Joy’ after
David had been completed the frame, taking her inspiration from a
hornbeam at Hambledon. The final work will be on display at the Wood
Season stand at Weald WoodFair, the Fruits of the Wood exhibition (see
Wood Season programme) and the Woodland Enterprise Centre Open Day in
October. Julia Desch and David Graham are pictured right with the finished
framed painting. For more
information about any of the participants in this project please contact
the editor.

Forestry
Commission
Supports WoodLots
We are extremely pleased to announce that the Forestry Commission
has shown its support for WoodLots by making a contribution to
the annual costs of the service, joining current contributors
East Sussex County Council, West Sussex County Council and Hampshire
County Council.
Jane Hull, Framework Development Officer at the Forestry Commission,
acknowledges the role WoodLots plays in connecting woodland owners,
managers and contractors with those buying woodland products and the
contribution this makes to stimulating South East England’s woodland
economy. By promoting market
opportunities, WoodLots contributes to fulfilling the goals of the
Regional Woodland & Forestry Framework, ‘Seeing the Wood for the
Trees’ which recognises the importance of a secure future for our
woodland resources through the financial viability of woodland
management.
