Win Win at Norbury Park
Wood is showing its winning ways again as Norbury Park Sawmill & Wood Products wins the Small Business category in the Surrey Sustainable Business Awards.

Ian Devon (pictured left receiving the award) manages the sawmill and workshops for the Surrey Wildlife Trust and says: "All the wood used at Norbury Park comes from South East England, some of which is harvested from sites managed by the Wildlife Trust....all the wood comes from sustainably managed woods...Our new kiln and heating system uses waste from the sawmill for seasoning wood. Sawdust goes for animal bedding and we are in the process of installing solar power for electricity to power the seasoning kiln. Offcuts are used for charcoal production.

Norbury Park Wood Products offers a catalogue of hand crafted items for the countryside and garden, whilst over 50% of their orders are bespoke, made to customer’s specification. For more information on Norbury Park Wood Products go to:
www.norburywood.org or telephone: 01483 401889

Free Wood Fuel Workshops
TV Energy (Thames Valley Energy Agency) are hosting a series of free bioenergy workshops throughout the South East (including the Woodland Enterprise Centre) in January. The workshops will explore bioenergy from wood and energy crops, with talks from installers & fuel suppliers. Speakers from Bioenergy Technology, South East Wood Fuels, Slough Heat & Power and the National Farmers Union will be there amongst others. Booking information right.

Makers Making Contact
Bert Buri, cabinet maker and member of the Sussex Guild, offers Katie Walker, designer maker, an opportunity to try her hand at marquetry. Both were exibiting at the recent Sussex-Somme Furniture Show at the Woodland Enterprise Centre in October, alongside fellow Sussex makers and visiting French furniture makers from Picardy.
For more information about this project and all the exhibitors involved go to: www.ruralbusinesses.net/furniture

  improved your business

If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions, or if you have your own supportive stories about WoodLots’ effectiveness, please help by writing a brief letter or email outlining the specific benefits you have gained.
