Forest Craftsperson Vacancy with Forestry Commission Forestry England are seeking skilled forest operatives to fill Forest Craftsperson vacancies in East England Forest District. There are six posts available, four in Thetford Forest and two in the Sandlings & Lavenham Beat.

We depend on our Craftspeople to meet high standards whilst working remotely to complete tasks ranging from large-scale tree planting programmes to fixing broken signs, so the successful applicants will be flexible and adaptable practical thinkers. They will be willing and able to work equally productively on their own or in collaboration with others.

A Craftsperson’s job is outdoors in all seasons, demanding physical and mental resilience. They work closely with the Beat Forester, Work Supervisor to support and achieve Beat programmes and projects efficiently and effectively.
Typical tasks will include, establishment and site maintenance undertaking tree planting, weeding and cleaning of restock sites and fence installation and repair. Estate/Recreation facility maintenance including installation and repair of signs, gates, barriers, picnic tables. Other broad areas of work will include Conservation and Heritage site maintenance, surveys and monitoring.
A full driving licence is essential along with NPTC or equivalent chainsaw licence and some experience in its use.

Chainsaw Operatives and Forestry Labourers Required The job will be working prominently in Chestnut coppice producing agricultural fencing material. Period is from now through to March 2021, and possibly longer, if workload requires. Work is centered around Petworth, West Sussex and nearly always within a 15 mile radius.

Training given, but must be self-employed, organised, be able to tolerate graft, able to budget... and generally awesome!

This is a very physically demanding job so you will need to have the self-drive if not the initial physical fitness. You need your own transport too.

If you know how to use a saw and cut to spec then you will be fine but don’t expect to earn loads of money if you can’t. Your earnings will be between £100 - £200 plus per day on piece rate if you have the skill required.

I’m happy for anyone with the basic skills to give it a go as everyone has to start somewhere, but if you can’t get out of bed and/or give it 100% then you will not get on with myself the rest of the lads.

We also need people are willing to commit within reason to full time.

Experience with purpose-built forestry machines also useful.

We are a small operation that works across East and West Sussex, Surrey and Kent. Our client base is wide and includes the FC, NT, Wildlife Trusts and private landowners. We undertake all forestry works from establishment though to final harvesting, woodland infrastructure works and all other operations. Although a large portion of the time will be spent cutting you will also be required to undertake other works in line with the above.
